1775–1795 in fashion : ウィキペディア英語版
1775–95 in Western fashion

Fashion in the twenty years between 1775–1795 in European countries and North America became simpler and less elaborate. These changes were a result of emerging modern ideals of selfhood,〔Dror Wahrman, The Making of the Modern Self (Yale University Press, 2004)〕 the declining fashionability of Rococo, and the widespread embrace of the ideals of Enlightenment philosophers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
==Enlightenment concept of "fashion"==
It is also at this time when the concept of fashion, as we know it today, begins. Prior to this point, clothes as a means of self-expression were limited. Guild controlled systems of production and distribution, and the sumptuary laws made clothing both hard to come by and expensive for the common people. However, by 1750 the consumer revolution brought about cheaper copies of fashionable styles, allowing members of all classes to partake in fashionable dress. With this, fashion begins to represent an expression of individuality.〔Cissie Fairchilds, "Fashion and Freedom in the French Revolution", ''Continuity and Change'', vol. 15, no. 3 (), 419-433.〕〔Peter McNeil "The Appearance of Enlightenment pg. 391-398〕 The constant change in dress mirrored political and social ideals of the time.
